ECHO (El Camino Homeless Organization) provides shelter for some of the homeless men, women, and children in SLO County 365 nights a year. Please consider helping ECHO this Summer as we continue to provide services to those in our county who need it the most!
The shelter still needs more volunteer support during the Summer months of August and September.
At least two volunteers must stay overnight with the shelter guests, as chaperones, to help supervise the evening. You can volunteer individually and we will pair you with another volunteer or you can volunteer with a friend. The shift is 5:00pm - 7:00am (14 hours). Upon arrival you are welcome to eat a free homemade dinner during our nightly hot meal program. Next, you will go through training with an experienced volunteer. Chaperones take turns taking sleeping shifts during the night, with one chaperone awake at all times. There is WiFi throughout the shelter so you can bring a laptop or tablet to use during your awake shift.
This volunteer position is unique among organizations because it provides the chance to get to know our guests in a personal way. It also provides the option of serving with someone you know in a quiet and family-like setting.
