Transverse flute handmade by Erik the Flutemaker. Made in 2025. Like-new condition. Crafted from Bamboo he grows on his property in Florida. This is Erik's "Oriental" minor pentatonic flute in the key of E flat. Although it's a side-blown flute, it is tuned as a Japanese Shakuhachi scale. Traditional Shakuhachi flutes are end-blown (very difficult to play). Erik offers this as an easier way to enjoy playing the Shakuhachi scale, simply by playing up and down the scale. It has a rich, deep, enchanting, and meditative sound. Plays 2 octaves. Natural finish with protective binding at the bottom. Comes with a black-patterned flute bag and printed instruction brochure.

There are 4 finger holes on top of this flute and one thumb hole on the bottom. Suitable for someone with medium to large hands. May be very challenging for smaller hands, due to the finger hole spacing. However, there are options for which fingers you can place on the holes, which helps accommodate different hands. Erik's public videos offer great tutorials.

This flute retails for $145 - $170 on Erik's website (depending on whether or not you get it concert tuned). I am offering it for $115.
