The Opportunity: A Phased Career Path
We aren't just looking for a "farm hand"; we are looking for a partner to build and manage our new egg enterprise. We have already laid the groundwork for success with established demand from high-end restaurants, local butcher shops, two active farmers markets, and a rapidly growing list of direct customers.
This role is designed to grow in phases as the enterprise matures, starting hours would be 20 hrs / week + room for grow to full time:
Phase 1: The Build (Months 1–3) Pay: $18.00/hour Focus: Infrastructure and preparation. You’ll be building mobile chicken coops (think Joel Salatin or Richard Perkins style), fences, setting up water lines, and caring for our 400 pullets as they grow. This is the "startup" phase where we lay the foundation for a world-class egg operation.
Phase 2: Launch & Production (Starting ~Month 3) Pay: $18.00/hour + Profit Sharing (Projected $30.00/hr total) Focus: Once the hens begin laying and sales commence, your compensation jumps via profit sharing. Responsibilities include daily care, picking, washing, and prepping eggs for our existing wholesale and retail partners.
Phase 3: Scaling the Enterprise Pay: Projected $40.00–$50.00/hour (via increased Profit Sharing) Focus: As we find our rhythm, we may increase the number of hens. By scaling the flock, your share of the enterprise profits grows significantly.
Phase 4: Ranch Diversification Pay: Increased Rate + Expanded Hours Focus: As Old Oak Pastures expands into a campground, weddings, and farm-to-table dinners, there will be opportunities to take on leadership roles or increased hours within these new hospitality and event ventures.
Support & Success
You will not be doing this alone. While this is a 5-day-a-week commitment, you will be fully supported by:
Our Ranch Manager: On-site to provide guidance, mentorship, and technical help to ensure you are set up for success.
Support Ranch Hand: Our existing team will cover the other 2 days of the week, ensuring the animals are cared for while you have your scheduled time off.
Qualifications
Purpose-Driven: You care deeply about animal welfare and regenerative land management.
Handy & Resourceful: You don’t need to be a veteran rancher, but you should be comfortable with tools and able to troubleshoot a water line or a fence gate.
Reliable: A 400-hen flock depends on consistency. We need someone who shows up and takes pride in the health of the birds.
Physicality: Able to work outdoors and lift up to 50 lbs.
