Mexican bird of paradise (Caesalpinia spinosa). Evergreen medium/small tree or shrub with multiple stems and stout spines. Blooms February to april. Drought-tolerant once established. Recommended growing in USDA zones 9b,10. This plant is often used as protective hedging against intrusions by animals ( or even humans ).
