Heliconia latispatha-also known as lobster claw, false bird of paradise. Native to tropical America. In the MUSA family, related to bananas. Can bloom anytime of year, usually blooms in the warm weather of spring and summer. Able to reach 10 ft. tall, almost always shorter (5-7ft.). Like a Banana, this plant should be planted in rich soil, given heavy feedings, regular watering in the warm season and sheltered from freezing temperatures. Best in part shade. Plants grow to become clumps, producing new shoots in the growing season. Great tropical accent plant-grows well with canna's, ginger(s), treeferns, Bananas (etc.) Limited number of plants available.
