Own a piece of San Luis Obispo and bicycling nostalgia.

From the era of Miyata, Nishiki, Bridgestone, Univega, Panasonic, Fuji is this hard to find 1984 Centurion Turbo race bike designed in California by Cozy Yamakoshi and manufactured in Japan of top of the line Tange Champion #1 tubing and top of the line (at the time) SunTour/ Shimano/Sugino components.

In the early 80’s, one of the first bike shops in San Luis Obispo was Mueller’s Power Plant which was located at 198 South St. (Now CCH pools). After several years, Mueller’s new owner renamed the shop Velo SLO where this bike was purchased in 1984. Velo SLO lasted many years and after it closed, the location became a series of different businesses over time.

Centurion was originally a brand of WSI (Western States Imports) formed by one of Raliegh’s sales agents. WSI eventually became Diamondback and worked with Italian manufacturer Cinelli on several projects. The Centurion brand was sold to a German company which shares financial interests with Japanese bike maker Merida.

Some time in 1990 WSI dropped the Centurion name, using the Diamondback trade name instead for both its mountain and road bike lines. Eventually, after nice Japanese-made bikes got too expensive for the US market because of exchange-rate and other cost factors, Diamondback was sold to Raleigh, USA. Production shifted to Taiwan.

Excellent condition except for minor cosmetics you might expect from a 35 year old bicycle.
