This is an incredible Eugene Berninghaus barber shop chair. This very rare chair was made in the late 1890's or early 1900's. The Berninghaus company started in 1875 and closed in 1938. Berninghaus designed the first hydraulic chair that also reclines back. Both the hydraulic and recliner work. This is a Hercules model which was one of the most famous and popular. The chair has red mohair upholstery which was the original type of material used. I'm pretty sure the wood is oak. Berninghaus used oak, mahogany, and walnut.
This was a barn find in Central California and I spent one year restoring it. The metal is powder coated brass and silver colors and looks great. It will last forever. I even found a head rest, which is very difficult to find. The chair is very heavy and will take 2 or 3 people to move it. This will be a local pick up. This rare chair is $2200. and is Cash Only. 805-Two-Three-Five-4114
