The SLO Soccer Showdown is a yearly fundraiser that Mercy Church is starting this year to raise money for our new building project. The theme of this year's SLO Soccer Showdown is "War of the Worlds" and it will be held on May 26th on Cal Poly Campus. There will be a different theme each year, but this year each team will be able to choose from a list of nations as their team's identity. The teams will be encouraged to dress up & have team spirit centered around the nation they've chosen. This soccer tournament, matches 5x5 teams (ie teams of 5 players each) to compete for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall ranking. Winning teams will be promoted to the next round as losing teams are eliminated.
Individual teams will be able to register online starting Monday, May 5th for a discounted team fee of $95. This early registration fee is available for teams who register by Sunday 05/18/08. The week before the showdown, late registration will be available for a team fee of $110 (starting 05/19/08). The final registration deadline is Friday 05/23/08. Teams can register, pick a team, and pay all online at the following website: www.slosoccershowdown.com. An email will be sent to each team no later than Saturday 05/24/08 confirming the team's first play time and field location.
The showdown will be held on Cal Poly's soccer fields & team check-in will start on Monday morning (05/26/08) at 830 AM. The first round of games will start at 9AM. The estimated tournament times are from 9AM to 4PM, but will depend on the number of teams signed up!
The goal for this event is to register at least 100 teams. Teams can be made up of people of any age, co-ed or all male/female. The vision for this yearly event is to raise funds for the completion of Mercy Church's San Luis Obispo campus which strives to serve the community of San Luis Obispo. Secondarily, the vision of this yearly event is to unite the community of San Luis Obispo & provide a sense of connectedness amongst the various populations within it.
